‘Write me a Novel was born in October 2018 in Montréal. It seemed fun and aesthetically pleasing to write words on human bodies, so I decided to do so with the beginning of my novel . Their chemistry was so incredible, and I fell in love with the results, which made me want to try it again. It was the first time I was hearing someone read my words out loud, and because I was deconstructing my work, by only painting a few parts, and making my words accessible to the viewer via a different canvas, something changed in the way I was perceiving my work.’ – Alice

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Write me a Novel is a project based on the idea that the writer is never alone in the process of creation, but instead accompanied by their characters and readers. Based on a short story of auto-fiction titled You can go anywhere in Paris in under 30 minutes, it revolves around the lives of three women who ultimately become one. Each woman is interacting both on paper and in front of the camera through the body she is written on. The viewer is able to hear extracts from the story and discover the parts that are written on the photographs, thus making up new narratives weaves.

ABOUT ALICE JL PIERRE

Alice JL Pierre is a photo-based multimedia artist, writer, freelance professional photographer and researcher based in Paris (France). Her background is in Art History, Literature, Philosophy and Creative Writing.

Alice's work is developed around the relationship between the human body, photography and text, exploring the themes of memory (as well as partial and complete loss of memory), family history, trauma and relationships through Photoliterature, Bodywriting, Narrative Art, Life writing and Performance Art.

As a freelance photographer, Alice explores the capacities of the human body through dance, fashion and portraiture, using it as a canvas for emotions and artistic expression.
